Q: What subjects can you tutor?
A: Subjects offered range from pre-school to college level math, science, English, social studies, business, most foreign languages, and computer software/systems. We offer help to parents in preparing their child for any Standards of Learning (SOL) tests in 3rd to 8th grade, and high school. We also offer a Study Skills program which is tailored to any grade level.
Q: How are tutors assigned?
A: Our goal is to provide qualified tutors to help students to achieve their best. We attempt to match student availability and needs with the expertise of the tutors, their availability, and the distances they are willing to travel. Most of our tutors are currently certified, or have been certified, and have several years' experience, but other qualifications are considered.
Q: When do I pay the registration fee?
A: When a qualified tutor is found, clients are charged a one time registration fee of $25 payable to "Achievement Plus". This check or cash is given to the tutor when you first meet them.
Q: How do I pay the tutor?
A: Tutors are paid $36 directly for each session, which is approximately one hour long. They can be paid in cash or by check. If the tutoring is held on a continuing basis, most tutors are willing to be paid on a bi-weekly basis. If for any reason you are not satisfied or your assigned tutor becomes unavailable, another tutor will be provided.
Q: Where should the tutoring be done?
A: Parents are asked to provide a suitable location where the tutor and student will not be distracted by television or other members of the family. For the safety of both the tutor and the student, an adult must be present in the home during all tutoring sessions. Otherwise, tutoring can be conducted in a public building if convenient.
